ADHD in Rancho Palos Verdes: Evaluation and Local Help
Where strong grades are expected, a bright kid with ADHD can keep up for years by working twice as hard — so the first sign is often exhaustion, not a failing grade.

Where to start on the Peninsula
Most school help on the Peninsula runs through two offices: Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified's Student Services, which takes written assessment requests, and the Southwest SELPA, the regional special education agency, whose parent committee holds education sessions for families learning the system. Put every request in writing and keep a copy. Everything below is public or nonprofit; I checked each one on its own website in October 2026.
- At school In PVPUSD, send a written assessment request to Student Services, or ask your school administrator about a 504 plan. San Pedro families in LAUSD start with school staff, then the Region South special education office.
- At college or work El Camino, Harbor College and CSU Dominguez Hills each have a disability office; register early in the term. For work, the Department of Rehabilitation has a Torrance office, though new applicants currently go on a waiting list.
- For a diagnosis I evaluate children 10 and older, teens and adults, at the Rancho Palos Verdes office or by telehealth anywhere in California. I start with school reports and the childhood history, then check sleep, iron, thyroid and what you take. When all of that lines up behind ADHD, I treat it as ADHD. Request an evaluation
- For support The South Bay CHADD chapter, based in Palos Verdes Estates, meets online twice a month on Saturdays, with family talks on Thursday evenings.
